Default Rear AC blowing hot after new engine

06 LR3 engine blows at 40K, dealer replaces it-could get into a long story here but want. AC was starting to run hot both front and rear before blown engine and after engine was replaced the AC started running cold in the front. I just realized that my LR3 has 2 AC Units and was trying to dig up some literature to troubleshoot my problem. If anyone knows a link or can attach some instructions that would be great. I have looked everywhere.

I was thinking that both systems needed recharge just before the engine blew and when they replaced it they had no choice be recharge the front one. Hopefully its just a freon issue. What I am looking for is a step by step guide to t/s the system as well as a guide to recharge the freon.

Default Two AC condensers, one fill point.

The link below has a number of pdf's that you can download and print out.

I would not say that there is within a step by step guide related to AC recharging however - most of what is there relates to the control systems.

Here might be a simply solution --

There are three settings for the rear heat / ac. One is "off" The other is when you push the button at the driver console the type light is lit. This setting uses the front console controls to set the temp. The third setting with the bottom light allows the 2nd row passengers to set the desired blower / temp on the overhead console.

If you have it on the third setting, and it's not set to cold, etc. that might create the symptom you mention.

There isn't a second system to recharge as such - they share a larger freon charge. But if there was a blockage in the lines to the rear unit I suppose that might explain your symptoms (assuming its not the obvious control issue that unseenone suggested).

Also in all honesty I wouldn't waste time and money (and possibly breaking something expensive) by messing around with those recharge cans from the auto store. To accurately refill/test most car AC now you need a machine which can evacuate and weigh the freon charge then determine how much it is over or short. Too much can be worse than too little as you could harm the compressor. I think my local AC shop charged me about $45 to verify the charge and top it off...a compressor is quite a bit more expensive...
