Oh Ok, well thanks for clarifying. That's good bit of info. Makes sense though I guess, I've never owned a diesel but I've heard they can get expensive with maintenance but will last for ever. I mean that generally not LR specific.
Thanks so much colleagues for the advice. Going for Castrol Edge- Full synthetic. The cost is not a problem vis a vis the repercussions of using poor quality oil. It's very important to know whats best for your car before you meet the mechanic/service guy. This gives you control over your vehicle's service.
I often see synthetic noted as the factory filled oil for the LR3 4.4 V8. Local LR Dealer uses Castrol GTX conventional oil and insists engines were never filled with synthetic from the factory.
^ Ditto. I use Castrol GTX High Milage, which is semi-synthetic. 5W-30.
I have been this close to using semi-synthetic in my wife's LR3.
I use traditional oil in my 2004 DII and have for over 150,000 miles.
In my wife's LR3 I have used Royal Purple and now am trying Mobil 1 High Mileage full synth. as she is pushing over 175,000 miles.
In my adventure bike (2011) and old 1980's Porsche I have always used non synthetic...and, as stated, my DII has never seen synthetic.
Just wondering if there is any truth to this with LR3's running traditional or semi-syn from the dealers or factory???
I work on all my cars and haven't been to a dealer in years...probably wouldn't switch back to traditional oil in my LR3 but curious none the less.
After seeing what Dino can do to an M70 engine, I ran synth blend but switch to the same as you, high milage Mobile one unless there is a sale on some other full synthetic. I had my valve covers off to do gaskets and things looked pretty dang clean for an engine with over 200k miles. So full synthetic is what I will keep using. Plus it really is pretty dang cheap now, less than $40 for an oil change (DIY).

Good to know (and see) so thanks for responding. I hate oil threads like the next guy but sometimes there is some value.
I only use Liqui Moly 5W-20 in the LR4 and Mobil One syn 5W-30 int the LR3. Both petro V8s.
AND as previously stated, Don't skim on the oil filter. Get a good quality one. I have seen a Fram filter apart one time and saw the internals all squished/collapsed

Castor GTX is not a conventional oil anymore. It hasn't been in the while. Company switched to semi synthetic many years a go without updating the information on the label. Both oils, GTX and High Mileage are synthetic blend versions.
