Default Refreshing the rims

I decided that the tired looking rims that I was swapping on my LR3 needed some love. The brakes under previous ownership had gone metal to metal coating the wheel in metal shavings which rusted up giving it a golden tooth kind of vibe.

So I had to spend a fair amount of time doing clean up and chiseling off metal shaving build up. Than it was scrub and dry to prep for the next step. In case you are needing to quickly dry something automotive and have a leaf blower or as I call it Automotive grade blow dryer give it a go works great. Works great to get the water out of the bead or dry carpets from a leaking sunroof drain....

So with the Bonatti Grey I knew I didn't care for the stock silver color of the wheels but wasn't positive that black was the answer. So I decided to plasti-dip the rims so I could try it out and it was easy to go back if I didn't like it.

I was really happy with how it looked in matte black but decided to lay down a coat of gloss, which in plasti-dip terms means more of a satin finish.

Really happy with how they turned out and I dig the black rims on the LR3. Some of the more detail orientated might notice the black out on the headlight. Did that out of curiosity still not sure if I like it or not.

Nice! I used Anthracite Grey on my Tonga Green and really like it. I tried the glossifier, but wasn't overly impressed. Agree that it's more like satin. This reminds me that I really need to touch mine up. The rocks have taken their toll, but it's held up remarkably well.

Thanks Juke.

Thinking of doing the fender flares and door trims in the matte black as well instead of the faded grey

Looking good ArmyRover!

I'm doing mine tomorrow. Hope they look as good as yours. Look forward to seeing the fenders if you choose to do them.

I'm thinking it's the right call to do them. I really think it will freshen the look of the LR3 up.

That looks good. I just got a 2nd set for winter tires. I'll plasti-dip one set and see how it goes. Did you do the barrels too or just the faces?
