Default restricted cat converter - new lr3 owner

Hey guys. So one day after my purchase of an 08 LR3 se the check engine light came on. Not too impressee. Regardless I took it to a rover shop and they said cat converters on both side need replacement. $1500 estimate. My questions a re

1- can they be remoced all together? Any risk?

2 - would a magnaflow or other aftermarket kit to any better? Or cheaper options.

3 - Is this an easy bolt on replacement?

I seem to recall someone saying the cats are warranty for eight years...

How many miles?

Also not very common that both cats would go at the same time, without outside influence at least. May want a second opinion.

Manufacturer emissions warranty, which covers cat failure, is 8yrs, 80k miles.

If the issue really is cats, go to a dealership, they're covered. I would still look for a second opinion, or at least post what fault codes were in the system.

I have a similar problem in that the dealer told me my driver's side cat conv needs replacing after diagnosing a CEL, which will cost about $1000. Unfortunately the warranty does not apply since I have a 2007 LR3 SE with about 104k miles. My question is whether anybody has replaced with after market cat or through non-dealer shop (Midas ?). I have done it with another car (Volvo), but it required welding it on.

I'll get the dealer to scan and see what comes up.

Don't go pay to get ripped off by the dealer.
Go to a local parts store and have them read the codes for free and get back to us with the actual fault code numbers.
And no, you do not want to screw around with removing them all together and if you did try, you would have to install a new set when ever you sell it or trade it in, per Federal law.

Thanks. I'll get codes and post. I have also emailed land rover canada and asked for confirmation of warranty coverage for my vin/year/mileage. Will post results of both.
