Default Retro Fit cooler box in 2010 Range Rover Sport/LR4

My 2010 Range Rover Sport was not equipped with a cooler box. I picked up a cooler box and was going to install it. I read that the computer will have to be activated to operate the cooler box. Is that correct? If so, will my Gap Diagnostics IID allow that? (by the way, someone, no affiliation, in the LA area is selling a Gap IID Tool Bluetooth model. Listing is on Craigslist Los Angeles $375, probably a little steep for a used Gap Tool considering that you will need to pay a transfer fee) Thanks Phil

A quick update, I emailed Gap Diagnostics. They had not heard of anyone trying to do a retrofit of a cooler box in a 2010 RRS or LR4. They did say that the Gap IID Tool would update it if it is required. We will find out. Now if I can just get this darn truck to run........Phil

Default Update

Did you ever get the cool box retrofit to work? Did it need a computer update?
Thinking of trying the same.

I am sure you dont need a computer update. The cooler box is self-contained in the LR3 and probably all Rovers. Meaning all its needs is power. The tiny little computer on the box is simply a voltage monitor and thermostat. It monitors the vehicle voltage to determine if it should power off even when switched on. So usually when you turn off the Rover the cooler will run for a while. Since installing a second battery, mine runs for quite a while. And from what I have read the connector is there in the harness on all vehicles. If not, just run two wires for power.

Sorry for the slow response, I just saw the follow up today. Short answer, no computer programming required, plug and play. Best of all the powered plug is already in the Truck. The storage box and cooler box have different sized rubber/plastic lids. Best to grab one at a wrecking yard, if close by, buying a new cooler box lid is $35 plus. If anyone needs a storage box, with lid, I have one, free. Pick it up in La Jolla or pay the shipping and I will send it off to you.

Here is my report from the LR4 discussion group.

"I have a 2010 Range Rover Sport. It did not come equipped with the center console cool box, cooler, fridge under the center console arm rest. It did have a nice storage space however. All of our other Range Rovers and the LR3 had the cooler box and I thought that this one needed one too. I sourced a cooler box out of a salvage yard for around $50 as I recall. Some said that the Truck would need dealer programming to power on. I finally got around to installing the cooler box and plugged it in. I removed the storage box, two screws on the front lip and remove the arm rest, storage box top. The storage box itself is pushed down into place. Once the screws are removed, the storage box has a push-in plug on the bottom, so give it a good pull up to remove. Install the cooler box by setting it in the open space, and push down to seat the plug. The center console is pre-wired for the cooler box. I clipped the zip-tie to give a little more wire to plug in the cooler box. Started the Truck and flipped the cooler box switch and bam, green light next to the switch came on (our LR3 and '06 Range Rover Sport have blue lights on the cooler box switches). The cooler box worked perfectly. So, no need, at least in my case, for the dealer to program anything. It is a great addition for a non-cooler box Truck."
