Shark Fin on Roof?

What's the big shark fin looking thing I see on the rear of the roof on a lot of LR3's? I don't have one and before owningI thought it was for the Navigation system, but I have nav.

I'm pretty sure it's an updated navigation / GPS antenna. I have an '05 HSE and I don't have a 'shark fin' either......

I believe that is for satellite radio and improved GPS functions. Personally, I like the small plastic pad that is so discrete....
