Default Smell of Raw Gasoline After Starting

Good day, all -

I have a 2005 LR3 that for the past 3 days has a very noticeable smell of raw gasoline after starting in the morning. My initial thought is a cracked hose somewhere in the fuel system but I have not had a spare moment to track it down yet.

Just wondering if anyone has a good place to start looking, or something other than a fuel line to check. Many thanks!

How many miles on that think.

Is there a correlation to how much fuel is in the tank?

How much fuel is in the tank?

There is an issue with the older ones and the plastic ring seal on top of the tank, the new one I had fitted due to fumes after filling up is now metal. There are also a number of things related to the EGR system which might cause issues, although that is not what you are describing.

pull the engine cover and check the fuel rail. Seen a few leaks from the fuel rail itself, not the sensor but the rail. you can order just the rail and you don't need the injectors just make sure to apply fresh oil or petroleum jelly to them.

Default 2005 LR3 (codes P0304/P0316) engine misfire gas odor

I was reading you thread post response regarding the gas odor.

MY 2005 at start has a strong gas odor and codes P0304/P0316 engine misfire cyl #4.

At start only on first starts there is a small gas leak, i determined the leak is coming from the fuel Collector rail. (i have picture)

Are any of these common faults for the 05 LR3.

Also the vehicle has 160000 miles.

The fuel pressure PSI is 71 lbs when i beleive it should be at 65lbs.

Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

My local mechanic thinks it could be the fuel pump causing the issue. (to much pressure).

Also, for what it is worth, if you are getting this after filling up, there is an updated tank seal, which is better. The gas tank rings get to leaking on these, it did on mine. It very gradually got worse until it started dripping.

Wherever you get the work / part done you should insist on a seal designed for a Petrol engine, as the diesel one they like to send is not designed for Gasoline, or Ethanol.
