Well after 8 mainly great years, we sold our LR3 today. Tonga Green with Tan interior, HSE with 7 seats and HD package, including locking rear differential. We put 70,000 miles on it, took multiple trips to Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Montana. Learned a ton about Land Rovers, water pumps and air suspension systems. The LR3 has been a blast to drive, has its quirks, such as leaking sunroof drains, but overall it has been great. Sold it to a friend for his daughter that is moving to Utah and wanted a solid 4x4 for use in the snow. I hate selling cars to friends, but I think that she got a great deal on this truck. New water pump, lower control arms, sway bar links, sway bar bushings alignment, air suspension compressor and two front air shocks. Exterior looks like a one year old truck, interior is exceptionally clean, except for the cracked dash. Best of all, other than a recently faulty cd player, everything works. Down to two Range Rover Sports, one of which is up for sale. Love this forum, Phil

Bummer!

I know the day will come for me to sell. When, not sure. What will replace my LR3, not sure. But I know I will have it for at least another 4 years. Quicks indeed, but the truck is enjoyable to drive. I will probably wear mine out and just locate a low milage LR4 (without the exploding engine).

 

Phil, I know the feeling. Loved my 07 LR3, but had to part with it having to cart my kiddos everywhere for tennis tournaments and regattas. Replaced it with a Touareg TDI, which is nice in its own way. But definitely missed my LR3, so what do I do? Make an excuse and get another one! lol Been mostly my daughter driving it, which gives piece of mind due to having a full frame.

Just picked up a LR4 and am about to list my LR3 for sale. The LR4 is so quick compared to the LR3, but to my mind the LR4 engine sounds like it's trying so hard compared to the easy work the LR3 makes of life. The extra gadgets are nigh (had them before on previous 3.0 diesel twin turbo) but I really love the V8. I wish LR had paired the best engine they made with the 8 speed ZF box.

 

I am potentially looking at doing the same thing. Did you go with the 2010-2013 (with V8) or the later SCv6? There is a major price difference between the two (sometimes 2x), but overall the reviews seem to favor the v8. My issue is that I'd be selling a 90k mile LR3 that I've just put a lot of money into for a first gen LR4 that would have lower mileage, but not THAT much lower. My main reason is that my wife likes the newer LR4s, and I am starting to worry about the next shoe to drop on the LR3, now that it is 12 years old.

 

I went for a 2016, so SCV6 3.0L. I wanted the 8 speed box and the newest vehicle I could find with the lowest mileage then hope I can run it for the next 10 years by babying it along. I have never driven the 5.0. Given that they had the superb 4.4 V8 I never understood that decision.

 

I'd keep the LR3.....at 90k miles it's still a baby. The timing chain guide issue on the LR4 has me wary.
