Unhappy Stereo rainwater intrusion

Have I been the only one lucky enough to deal with the rainwater intrusion from the sunroof "feature" ?
I'm on the third one replaced under warranty (and since expired) I usually catch the problem before it occurs but was out of town .. Now I have a boat anchor - HOWEVER this time, the radio does turn on and changes preset stations, the CD's all appear to be working SO, I am left with a glimmer of hope, and since research shows no available "kit" to replace the existing unit with aftermarket, I've decided to ask here... Any hints or suggestions that work would be rewarded with a free Beer :-) or two..
Thanks
Terry

I have to seriously question what's going on here. Three stereos destroyed by water... hmmm.. What is the reason your roof drain has repeatedly plugged?

Exactly what question are you asking here, it is not clear. Are you looking for a stereo, a repair suggestion, or help deciding to replace it with a non oem one?

Default Thanks for responding

The 05' LR3 has had an intrusion issue since I purchased it almost 7 years ago - The service advisor said it is a feature of the LR3's to shed water down the A pillars, and it has been checked for plugged lines...
Evidentlly the amount of rain fall has been the issue, upon deluge it flows back into the headliner, pooling in the interior light area and eventually finding it's way thru the headliner, falling down the facia of the radio and I think into the CD opening ?!?

My question is, since this time it hasn't completly destroyed the unit - and the only thing not working seems to be the volume, has anyone "reset" the unit, or found a fix for this? I may be the only one that has the issue ?!?

Secondly and thanks for asking, I did do some research on the aftermarket installation pkg availability and so far (very limited research thus far) have found a video on you tube showing someone making one from MDF, he goes on to mention that there is no aftermarket install kit, but that was an 07' he worked on - it was a sweet unit with sat nav, blue tooth and a large screen so sure it comes at a large price too ??

I read that someone has had an issue with the wiring harness that runs along the drivers side, I'll check for abrasions etc.
Thanks again for your help

I had the problem early on with some leaking, the water apparently dripped from the light as well as from the air bag covers in the pillars.

I did get the problem resolved at the dealer though. I know roof drain plugging are a struggle, as many have had the problem. I do think my problem is resolved and has been ever since. Of course we don't get that much rain here, but no leaks as far as I can tell.

I think you definitely should confirm the drain lines are clear and not plugged. I do not believe there is anything different about the design or assembly of the sun roof on the '05 model. There was a TSB about re-routing the drain lines, and it should have been dealt with under warranty.

Default sunroof leak - my fix

In my case there was indeed a blockage. The fix is easy enough.
1. open sunroof
2. Remove front driver side tire (this is the place the drain feeds to)
3. locate the drain at both ends
4. Feed weed eater line down the train, working it until you come to the end
5. I believe I ended up prying open the end at the lower end to allow better flow.
6. test by pouring some, not alot, of water into the drain at the sunroof.
7. continue these steps until you see water exiting from the drain.

note: this is a temporary fix, you may need to do it annually or more/less depending on your environment.

actually you can pull the ends off the sunroof with ease and grace. the passenger side is behind the air intake. pull out the plastic cover and the remove the sponge material and cut the end off. Leave out the sponge. its easier and doesn't get pressed up against the drain unless you cut a really deep channel for water to run out. Then the driver side is under the dashboard. just check to make sure the hose is routed right and not kinked. but pull the end out and cut the tip and reinstall. Plus take a glass of water and pour it into the drains of an open sunroof. afterwards, blow it out after the water goes down. I have seen dirt collect in the sunroof drain tube area and you have to soften it up with water and then blow it out. Oh and make LR and the dealer pay for the repair if they didn't repair it right the first time.

Default Thanks . . . Although

My job temporarily transferred me from Northern California to the Houston area in June for 90 days - I've been here over 6 months. 2 weeks into that transfer the LR3 spun a rod bearing and is now in storage in the houston area awaiting my return to California - if I don't sell it to a vehicle recycler, I guess I'll rebuild the engine ?!? then cure the leak at the sunroof - I appreciate your input to solve this issue, If I can remove those sponge features and ends, I will, again Thanks

As for the Engine - when the economy forced my company to furlough us, I went to work in the oil fields of North Dakota, was a great experience, however Land Rover doesn't make or recommend any engine heaters (per Minneapolis and Denver East and later confirmed by Rocklin). At minus 60 oil does change nonetheless, I developed a small tick at 112,000 miles that the Minneapolis dealer called "normal for having 112,000" Jim at Rocklin disagreed with me and we both agreed it was a lifter - I tried everything to free the lifter but these are very unusual and internally shimmed, at any rate I drove another 21,000 miles before the rod bearing gave in (Yes, I had changed the oil more than recommended since the day I bought it new 2,500 to 3,500 was usual but it may have gone as far as 5,000 miles once or twice, never went the recommended 7,500 miles - I know you must be asking yourself that)
I've looked for a replacement ($14,250 at dealer and other estimates where very close) Recyclers want about $5,000 for motor and $2,500 to install it - I've just not found any that I fully trust and am capable of rebuilding the engine out of pure angst for the whole situation (yes, there is more to the story)
I have an 87' RRC too and have toyed with the idea of blending the two after rebuilding the block but am thinking the best idea is rebuild the engine and trade it in - GIVE the 87' to someone that bleeds british racing green like myself and just keep the memories, then buy a 2 wheel drive 2 door GMC pick up while I'm ahead... I'm open to suggestions too - I'd consider just about anything right now...
Thanks again for your input guys - yes, the radio is still not working
Terry
