Default suspension compressor runs with car off??!!

Hi all, thanks in advance for any advice.. So the 2006 lr3 v6 is on it's 2nd (at least) compressor, was working fine, no issues since replacement 2 yrs and 30k miles ago.
Current status is that the compressor starts then faults with "gallery pressure decreasing too slowly" .. so now the car is sitting on the rubber stops, not drivable.
However, the interesting moment is when my daughter, who drove and parked the car, turned off the ignition, exited the car and closed the door(!) .. called me from school and said that the compressor is still running, and now even started to smoke. I instructed her to pull the fuse 3, and she did (looking at the fuse diagram.. Im so proud of her).. NO EFFECT.. the compressor kept running. Only when she pulled relay 7, did the compressor stop. (Again, engine shut off, key in her pocket, car door shut, she's out of the car). The exhaust plastic tube melted at the elbow. I fixed it with a piece of copper tube. will prob replace with proper tubing. Anyway.. not sure what to think.. just take out the compressor, check the exhaust air flow, etc. ? replace the compressor?
Im mostly confused by the thing running with car off and key out of ignition. Even with computer fuse pulled (of course she could've pulled a wrong fuse..)
And again, at the moment, the compressor behaves like expected.. no ghostly behavior.. Just throws the error I mentioned before..
Ideas?

Default AMK or Hitachi?

Depending on brand, there is a serviceable part you can buy to fix this issue.

hitachi type (cheap) replacement.. Which part do you think failed? I have another (cheap) replacement on the shelf .. But the main puzzle piece for me is how did the compressor run with the key off and out of the ignition.. and fuse 3 pulled.. Is a relay failed somewhere, and Ill burn the next compressor up too?

So you're saying it's not an actual Hitachi but a knock-off of that version? If so, I'd start by just getting a legit compressor. On the actual Hitachi, when the desiccant starts to break down it fouls up the operation, resulting in (amongst potential other things) the fault you have presently. You can replace the drier; it's fairly inexpensive. You can also replace just the desiccant.

Question on your main puzzle piece....is it possible that it was some other subsystem running and not the compressor?

Your relay failed and got stuck. There are a few for air suspension, one is for computer not compressor.

makes sense.. it's intermittent then.. bc compressor works now. Only produces 100 psi or so, still need to swap it out. And a new relay..
