Default Tailgate Noise

The tailgate on my '06 LR3 makes a really annoying creaking sound over rough pavement. Anyone else having the same problem? Any fixes? I took a pretty thorough look at mine, and it doesn't appear that anything is loose back there.

Not sure about a creacking sound, but look at the bolt that secures the small gas bottles that hold up the rear door to the rear body. They come loose and it's a major pain to fix if its allowed to come all the way out. Not sure if it would cause a creacking sound, though!

take a little bit of grease, something clearish and heavy, i use wheel bearing grease, and lube up the spring tensioners... they look like little wedges on either side of the upper section, mounted on the body, they have bolts holding them on and a spring behind the 'wedge'. they tend to bind with the tailgate when it moves a little. lube both the spring and the 'wedge' face

This may have nothing to do with your issue, but I have a 2007 LR3 and had a similar issue. It turns out, there was a weld that had broken either the door assembly or on the frame around the door. The weld held some sort of plate in place. This all occurred within six months of my purchasing the vehicle new. I can't recall now, but I think it may have been the subject of a recall even. If you need more information, I can try and fine the receipt, which may detail the exact nature of the problem.

Hope this helps.

it was a service action to fix that, it was for the rh tailgate support mount. it usually causes more of a rattle noise

Thanks for the advice. Finally got around to fixing it. The bearing grease worked great.

Tried WD40, and other lighter lubricants, but the rattle always came back. Bearing grease is the magic fix.
Thanks!

roverguy7,
Thanks for the tip. The rattle was driving me crazy and I tried checking everything. All is quiet again.
