Default tailgate won't open

Well I had a great weekend of helping to deliver food to the poor and homeless, but after all that opening and closing of my tailgate now it won't open. Does anyone has any ideas. I haven't even looked into really and I won't be able to really look in until tuesday so no rush, but ideas might get if fixed that much faster. Thanks in advance.

niether will open and i took a look at it last night for about a hours, and fixed a few other problems, there are screws at the bottom which i will try and take off tonight, to get to the tailgate solenoid. I hope this will release it so I can open it.

Sounds to me like the solenoid in the switch has failed, do you have a RR classic or P38a? i don’t know about classics if there the same or not, but on the P38a the same switch unlocks both the upper first and you press it again and the lower tailgate opens, check for lose leads, take them out and give the contacts a clean, and spray with a little electrical contact lube, if that all fails you’ll have to get another button by the sounds of it, good luck

I just had a Look in my shead and i do have a second hand spair if your interested, the rubber seal on the outside has seen better days but its not broken only slight cracking on the rubber thats all, when you swap it over if yours is better keep yours on, but i know the switch is fine and 100% working, its all black (no crome on it) but email me as i dont know where you are, im in the U.K.

Get in touch if it is that part tony___@hotmail.com by the way, i’m not a dealer or a business etc, its just i have a top an bottom tailgate with all the parts on hope t helps

Tony

yeah it was the tailgate switch, it wasn't that hard, the hardest part was getting the back carpet panel off when the tailgate was closed. So i hope a new switch is my only problem. thanks for the help.
