Default terrain Response issue

Considering purchasing a 2007 LR3 HSE at a discounted price. Problem is I am told, that the "Terrain Response System" is stuck in the drive mode. I am being told that the part is $1200 plus labor to install. Any ideas what this could be and is it worth it to mess with. It has 76000 miles on it and is in great condition. I can purchase it for $14500.

Honestly I'd question their price for the repair if they don't want to fix it. But they might have their reasons.

There is no 'drive' mode of the system, and further more, the Terrain Response system does not do anything at all itself, just tells other systems what to do.

The only time that I have had to replace one of them, is when the get water on the inside, but I remember the part being much cheaper then that.

I would get it inspected by someone that has experience with LR before the purchase, as this could be something very simple, or just the tip of the iceberg.
