Time for me to get a hitch......HELP!!
I've been trying to figure this thing out. Should I save money and get the bolt on normal looking receiver? Is it even legit? I called a parts place and they were just like "yeah buddy there's ten people ahead of you bla bla".. I just need some schooling please . .
Needing it by next weekend for a trip to the river for hauling kayaks and mountain bikes. That is if the mechanic tomorrow tells me that the whining noise in the front can be fixed by then....

Bolt on? The stock LR hitch is not bolt on. If I were buying a hitch now, I would either look on Craigslist for a used LR hitch, or if I had the money, I would contact tlt/unseenone and buy one of his "bolt-on" hitches that sits up higher for better ground clearance and holds more weight than the stock hitch.

And the bolt on I speak of is one from a hitch company that looks like a normal draw-tite like goes on a regular pick up. I just have zero experience and always get confused on these websites
I ended up ordering online last night built by Curt. At $138 I couldn't go wrong. Did all my homework and it looks like it will work for us.
I have a stock hitch for an '07 LR3 that is for sale. I bought a new latch/lock for it but it does not seem to work properly. Perhaps if one has the time they could diagnose the issue and find a fix for it.

Does the Curt hitch work with the full sized spare?
Edit: Apparently not.

I guess for kayaks and mountain bikes none of this matters - but the OE unit has an additional 1200lbs IIRC, and is obviously engineered to the OE vehicle specs, locations etc for weight and balance.
I just don't like the bolt-on stuff, but obviously you're using this as an accessory so it will be totally fine. I'd still try to find the quick-release LR OE hitch as you'll be able to use it forever and it will have ZERO impact on your spare tire, ground clearance, etc and is totally removable, plus you'll now have a full 7,700lb tow capability as well (ya never know.. in a few years maybe you'll want a boat or something!)
