Trans leak at drain plug
EVERYWHERE?
Oh, I beg to differ....
Not that I think coils would improve the LR3's off-road abilities. But we don't want to start comparing ourselves to Jeeps off-road or we're going to be in trouble. For that matter, let's not compare ourselves to older solid axle Rovers either.
But enough thread drift. We can re-crew this old bone another day.

Thought you'd understanding the use of the word punishment ? Was trying to be respectful to LR3 owners whom fancies themselves as hard-core offroaders.
How about inadequate for my trail use ?
I'll use a little more context for you... Approach & departure angles alone, limits it's trail use (At least it does for me since I already own a Jeep) Although EAS provides respectable wheel travel, it's still dependent upon an air system. Plastic...So much plastic.
Comparison, and modifications of both (LR3 & Jeep) are for my specific use since I own both. I am not pitting them against one another.
Really? 32" tire on 18" wheels.... Oh, you should totally add a snorkel!

It's my opinion that aftermarket coils just provide pavement reliability and mask electrical glitches due to water intrusion, and, or failure of air components.
Okay HOOOLD on.
I thought we were were comparing an EAS LR3 versus a "coiler" LR3. NOT a Jeep. My mistake if I didn't state that clearly the first time. I was reacting to this KMET statement: "Having wheeled with a group of both stock coiled and EAS equipped LR3's. I respectively disagree.
...Unless we're talking towing?"
The statement that he is disagreeing with is that the coiled-LR3 is less capable. That's my only thesis here.
The LR3 and the Wrangler are just too different to ever compare.

. You'll find that most people who drive, even stock Jeeps, are in no rush. With an added bonus of going topless, without doors, and resting your left foot atop sliders. It's pretty relaxing.I've seen Jeeps tow off-road trailers, once again, not quickly, but they do fine.
Yeah I'd call BS on that too, unless I saw it first-hand. If the coiler had a locker I could see it....but let's say non-HD versions, no way. The articulation would hurt too bad. If the TR had to effectively be disabled to make the coiler work, then that hurts too...not as bad if the driver is adept, but it still hurts.
As for this: Really? 32" tire on 18" wheels.... Oh, you should totally add a snorkel!
Funny...ha ha ha....but an LR3 on 32s has 13" of ground clearance and is no joke. That's probably like a Jeep on 33s or maybe even 35s (Wrangler Unlimited or XJ or JGC)

Whoa there with the 3-bashing. I drive a disco as my work truck, on a construction site. 500 miles of commuting a week, has not once broke down since I bought her. She starts up at 5:30am just fine, and has been driven just about every single day since I started working out west again. Blaming everything on gremlins and not addressing simply operating the truck frequently and simple maintenance, doesn't hold that much water for me. Should have opened the tranny pan before 90k, and damn sure should have changed the mechatronics sleeve/pan before complaining about it now. Probably the money spent on coils could have covered that, easy in parts. And I still have EAS. If it leaks, swap the line, strut, or block, and go back to enjoying the capabilities. It will never be a rock crawler for me but going to coils always seemed like kneecapping the poor girl. Plus lugging around hundreds of pounds of tools and equipment, it's nice when the suspension has zero sag and less sway than the lifted jeeps I see on the road weighing at least a ton less.
FWIW I love jeeps too. But I wouldn't compare them like this. For a daily with character, comfort, and safety (important on CA freeways...), It would be a land rover hands down every time.
And go easy on us snorkel users.... we get a lot of dust on our worksites...

Sorry it's take'n me a few days to respond... (Busy with life)
I wasn't bashing our 3's until challenged on my decision switching from EAS to coils. Wouldn't even call it bashing.... Just pointing out the obvious.
I'd love to see the environment where (Actual use) some feel the necessity of adding a snorkel. If you feel it adds ability, whom I to question your reasoning...
Originally, all I stated was my frustration (Who hasn't) with Land Rover. All of witch have been corrected... (Alternator was going)
Dave,
In my defense; Year and a half ago (Grudgingly) before leaving for two months (Solo backpacking trip). All fluids, filters, were changed. Including trans pan. I wanna say around 95k-100k? Invoice amount $4,000 (South Bay Land Rover)
For ****s sake. My decision was based upon what I already have (LR3 & Jeep) If all you have (...an LR3) for trails, towing, whatever blue-collar tools you need. Do what fits your needs.
