I wonder if Baking Soda and water will neutralize the acid, similar to they way it does battery acid. I think it's a similar reaction to Hydrochloric Acid.
Found this one the web;
One method is to pour undiluted white vinegar onto the affected area to soak it completely, wait a few minutes and then blot it dry with clean paper towels.
A second method is to use baking soda. This may be useful if the smell is in carpets. Pour baking soda on the area of the carpet with the ammonia smell, allow it to sit for a few hours, and vacuum the area.
Hydrogen peroxide is another home remedy used for cleaning and removing ammonia odor. Combine hydrogen peroxide with water in a two to one ratio, pour this over the area, and allow it to sit for 10 minutes before blotting with paper towels.

I will try that on some of the "hard" parts, plastic, metal, etc. I ended up removing all of the carpets, the old ones looked like new, only 15k miles, but just smelled awful. I tried a myriad of sprays, shampoos and witch's brew, it was just too gross, I actually like the black carpet better, now if this dang thing would just start........
Well, it has been more than a year and the Range Rover Sport is still sitting in my driveway. I am sure that the neighbors love me, I guess it could be worse, a 92 buick......The interior is back in and looks terrific, the odor is all but gone, I give the interior a spritz of Chemical Guys Leather Air Freshener every couple of weeks, smells great.
I am thinking that my none turnover, none start issue has to do with the Transfer Case Control Module, as was suggested by Tom. I have read on several other forums that other trucks with similar codes and lights were caused by the TCCM. Is there a way to test the TCCM? Can I plug one in from another LR3 or RRS (my wife drives a 2005 LR3) I also have a buddy with a wrecking yard in Phoenix with a fresh RRS. Anybody have experience with Transfer Case Control Module replacement or reflash? It would be great to get this beast running! Thanks Phil

Well after 18 months and countless hours I had our 2006 Range Rover sport project towed to a local independent rover shop. I could not get it to turn over. Couldn't figure out what the issue was. So far there is a lack of communication with the transmission. If it doesn't relay that it is in park or neutral. The motor won't turn over. Keeping those fingers crossed that it is something simple! Phil

As the worm turns....well, the Range Rover Sport is at the shop, a local indy shop here in San Diego. I have a great deal of confidence in them and they seem to really know their stuff, especially Rover electrical issues. They were able to get the engine running, but they had to by pass the key, still no luck there. The engine ran great, incredibly, with 8 year-old gas!
The shop got the tranny to communicate with the ecu, but there are a few more communication errors, looks like the rats did some chewing under the truck as well......dang rats......
They did notice a broken engine mount bracket on the right side of the engine.....add that to the list. I am open for suggests on that repair......
They also noticed that I had an issue with the steering rack. The steering rack that was in the truck had been damaged in the accident. Something knocked a hole in the body. I replaced the steering rack with what was described to me was another out of a 2006. It bolted right up and seems identical to the old one, thankfully, I haven't tossed the old one so I can compare the two. The current shop told me that there was some kind of a superseded part for the spindle or knuckle? I checked with the local Land Rover dealer and they couldn't find anything. There is play in the front end when you grab the wheels and move them back and forth. Not sure exactly the issue, I couldn't find anything regarding a updated steering rack or new part number. Has anyone dealt with this issue?
The lead mechanic told me that I would make a ton of money parting the thing out.....ouch. He said with the low miles the parts would bring premium prices. Not ready to go down that route yet.
Still hoping that this will be running and driving soon. Thanks Phil

Well the light at the end of the tunnel is finally in sight. The Range Rover sport now starts with the key. Shifts through all of the gears. Headlights work perfectly. Wipers work. Fridge works. Suspension almost works. It raises and lowers with the scanner. Still have a wire that is loose cut or has a bad ground. Same thing with the abs fault. Probably a cut wire or sensor that is malfunctioning. I took the truck to the British garage a local Indy shop here in San Diego. I am uber impressed with the mechanics They have done a great job of chasing cut wires bad grounds and other tech issues and have done it at an incredibly fair price. They should have the abs fault and suspension fault sorted next week. I can't tell you how happy I was to hear it running. Sounds like a brand new truck. Even running on 8 year old gas. Can't wait to have the mechanics and electrics figured out so I can get it painted and on the road! Phil
It just keeps getting better. Pretty much everything works. The tire pressure light is on but that is it. That may just be low pressure. More likely dead batteries in the sensors The shop is replacing a broken engine mount bracket and the truck should be ready for the maiden drive! I can't wait. Photos coming soon. Phil
