Default Transmission Fluid Change..Use what fluid?

I have been recommended the first day on this forum that the transmission Fluid should be changed at about 65-70k not 150k as LR recommends.
Ok..
Would like to change trans fluid as I want to keep this car forever..
What fluid should be used..when the place looked up the recommended fluid
it came up with a specific super expensively priced stuff..?

We have about 75k miles on it..what do we use?
Whats best and hopefully reasonable price. Thanks

Shell M13754, but because it is not sold a lot, prices can be steep. It is the same in Rover, Jag, and the Mercedes, which use the ZF six speed tranny. Mercedes dealers charge about $20 a liter less. However, there are posts on other sites about this very item and alternate fluids.... see Cheaper Sources for Shell ATF M1375.4 Fluid ?

Also, you might have a Shell distributor nearby, stop in and shake hands, they might be able to help you out. You'll probably be the only person who has come in asking for it.

Castrol makes an equal - see http://www.castrol.com/liveassets/bp...s_ImportMV.pdf

You can get the fluid from a ZF distributor too. Lifeguard 6 they call it. It's still about $20 a quart.

The BG universal fluid says it's compatible with the part number for the Land Rover fluid that they sell in Europe (liter bottle instead of quarts). It's about $7 a quart.

There is some talk at some of the forums whether the transmission fluid for the Lincoln Navigator with the 6HP26 is the same fluid. It's Mercon SP and is at O'Reilly for $4.99 a quart. That's what I bought when I did a drain and fill. Seems to shift fine. I've got a metal pan and filter on the way to replace the OE pan/filter... I'm not sure what I'll use. I've still got some Mercon SP, so I'll probably use that.

I flushed mine about 6 month's ago and used Pentosin ATF1.
Shifts and runs much smoother.

I conversed with somebody at ZF some time ago, and they said that ATF1 was a direct replacement for Lifegaurd 5, but would NOT give it the "green light" for a Lifegaurd 6 replacement. I have known people to use the BG fluid and ATF1 in their 6HP transmissions with no issue, but its a route I won't go. Lifegaurd 6 all the way for me.

I paid that at British Atlantic last year, only because I was unable to find anything else compatible (with in the scope of my experience/knowledge)

threads a few days, weeks, even years old!

But, we use BG petrospecs at our shop. Not available to the public, also better then compatible is the REDline ATF D6.

MSP IS LG6, but red. Made to be used in the Ford Navigator with the 6HP26

I've used it in all of my 6 speed LRs, from my 4.4 HSE RR, to my 4.4 HSE LR3, and then my 5.0 HSE, to my 5.0 Supercharged. I put well over 50k miles on each truck minus the LR3 with no problems.
