Transmission Rebuild
There's a LR3 locally that is being sold cheap because the truck won't run now. Two different mechanics diagnosed it as skipped timing but that doesn't compute with only a tranny rebuild being done. Does the vehicle need a software reflash to correct the problem? If Abram is still on here, have you ever run into this?
Thanx...
Thanx...
The truck is a couple of hours away so I am gleaning this info from the ad...
Mechanics Special - Engine skipped timing. Was told no engine damage but needs timing done (tensioners, guides etc). Engine was not nor did it run while timing was skipped to our knowledge. Drove into the shop fine, wouldn't restart after trans rebuild. Two shops diagnosed it as timing. Was planning to do an LS swap but am into two other projects currently. Trades considered.
The Good - Transmission just rebuilt ($2000) - 2.5" JR lift on the factory air bags - Advanced Terrain Control (rock crawl, mud, sand/snow, reg on the fly modes). - True Low Range Transfer Case - Snorkel - Aftermarket front and rear bumpers - Interior in really good shape - No rust! Frame has scale but very solid.
The Bad - Engine skipped timing - Windshield Cracked - Will need new tires before inspection - Inspection is up but shouldn't need much other than listed to pass.

If the timing chain needs resetting it can only be for 2 reasons, it was rebuilt and set incorrectly or the chain is stretched or tensioners failed and skipped while engine was running.
If I recall the engine will not fire up if the trans is not hooked up. I wonder if they botched the transmission connector? But still wonder what they mean since they dont really say it does not crank. Guessing game really.
So there is nothing that could have been done in rebuilding the transmission that would prevent the truck from turning over? If they swapped out a control module, would that maybe not register?
Seems like they maybe got someone that didn't know what they were doing to rebuild the trans...
May still be a good buy for the bumpers and extra bits....

What engine does this LR3 have? The V6 has it's timing pickup in the bellhousing of the transmission. If they didn't reconnect the wires or damaged them it would cause a "no start" situation. The engine would still crank though. Not sure how the V8 is set up.
Thanx... not sure which engine at this point but good to know.
