Question Types of transmissions that fit a 2005 ?

Hello.
What can be used/adapted that will work in non-performing-demanding city use for a 2005 LR3 ? A low-torque-wimpy one is fine for the driving habits. Is there a BMW / Audi / Hyundai that will fit ? 6H19 ? 5H...? 6H...? Older 4HP24 ?
Replacing it with a proper and equal transmission as should, would it need reflashing software to mate it to the vehicle, or what hurdles to expect ?

Only the original LR spec ZF6HP26 will fit, a ZF8HP may physically fit but getting it to play nice with the electrics is a different story.

Thank you. The ZF6HP26 seems to be a brutally expensive replacement, and probably rebuilding it too. Will digest the expensive options before buying a LR3 being offered to me with transmission problems.

It may not need replacing or rebuilding, sometimes a fluid/filter change can help or a valve body rebuild or torque converter replacement .

Sometimes people put in 2 tubes of Dr. Tranny and drive happily 100k miles. Not endorsing this but it can sometimes solve (postpone) issues. Also, without knowing more about the transmission problem it’s a bit difficult to say, particurly from remote, what could be the trouble.

There are plenty of parts available like TCs, Sonnax makes a Zip Kit with the most common things to replace, etc.

Take a look at the disco3.co.uk website under the "Dr tranny" thread, you'll learn quite a bit there about the ZF6HP.
It is a stout transmission, generally long lived and often responds well to snake oil (Dr Tranny) or some love from the shift solenoid pack.
If the symptom is that it will engage reverse but not go into drive, and if it's cheap enoughm it's probably worth a risk. The shift cable/lever going into the transmission will rust and not allow the cable to fully engage forward drive and that is a simple fix. I solved that one on my $500 LR3 with PB Blast and a couple hammer taps.
