Default Uh oh. I think I messed up :(

I replaced the fluid in my rear diff. But I think I replaced it through the wrong opening.


I have HD package and refilled through the long hex bolt not the rear of the diff. I’ve driven a bit on it too.

What at is the bolt and what have I done here? And where is the fluid? 🤬

I know now if probably should have filled up here instead :





So. What can I do? I think I majorly messed up here.

The only problem I can see is that you might have under/overfilled as its fill to spill on the actual fill plug. I don't remember seeing the plug you filled, but I get so used to seeing things sometimes an obvious thing I miss.

Thanks abran.

I filled it via the first picture plug. I later found this was not a plug but more of a bolt. Then I found that this helps set the differential in some way . Have I messed up my diff?

Also. This is strange but I thought these e-diffs have a long hex bolt that sticks out far from the diff? Mine was just this....

go back and refill from the proper hole until a small stream comes out and close the fill plug. you should be fine.

Thanks. I take it this means drain and refill using the same just into a different hole....

and what of the bolt? What have I done now I’ve removed and replaced it?

Does it it set the clutch or something up?

Also, no do not drain just still to the point to where it’s at the right level.

If memory serves me that bolt is just a stop for one of the assemblies that turns inside the case

No no. The plug I removed (which had a long bolt on the back side of it) was like your 2012 example.

I did did not have the hex type protruding bolt at all.
