Default Uh oh. I think I messed up :(

I replaced the fluid in my rear diff. But I think I replaced it through the wrong opening.

I have HD package and refilled through the long hex bolt not the rear of the diff. I’ve driven a bit on it too.

What at is the bolt and what have I done here? And where is the fluid? 🤬

I know now if probably should have filled up here instead :

So. What can I do? I think I majorly messed up here.

The only problem I can see is that you might have under/overfilled as its fill to spill on the actual fill plug. I don't remember seeing the plug you filled, but I get so used to seeing things sometimes an obvious thing I miss.

Thanks abran.

I filled it via the first picture plug. I later found this was not a plug but more of a bolt. Then I found that this helps set the differential in some way . Have I messed up my diff?

Also. This is strange but I thought these e-diffs have a long hex bolt that sticks out far from the diff? Mine was just this....

go back and refill from the proper hole until a small stream comes out and close the fill plug. you should be fine.

and what of the bolt? What have I done now I’ve removed and replaced it?

Does it it set the clutch or something up?

So there was a bolt like in my first photo and you remove that and replaced with a drain plug?

Also, no do not drain just still to the point to where it’s at the right level.

If memory serves me that bolt is just a stop for one of the assemblies that turns inside the case

No no. The plug I removed (which had a long bolt on the back side of it) was like your 2012 example.

I did did not have the hex type protruding bolt at all.
