Upper control arm striking shock phenomenon
It happened to me maybe five years ago. Perhaps in the original post there is one. I saw a photo and knew of the issue before it happened...which made me retro-angry at myself for not recognizing what was happening before it was too late.
Those of you that have read my posts all these years will not believe this, but....I am considering the coil conversion for the '06.

Also wheeled the 07 with EAS and lift rods with 265/70's no issues. Know multiple other LR3's running 33-35" with no issues either.
LR4 on 35s with a couple feet of air under the front wheels.
My experience just varies from yours

....the key condition is that one or both shocks are toast. That in conjunction with heavier tires and being at full droop.
Idk...happy to be dead wrong and never experience that **** again.

Thought I would put my twopence in here. The shocks are tied at both ends, so the upper and lower control arms can only move so far. The ARB is a torsion bar and will break if rusted or taken past its torsion limit which would be with one wheel being higher than the wheel arch and the other side hanging down to its limit unless it has been weakened due to abuse. I suppose that the top control arm could "possibly" hit the metal canister around the air bag if the bushes were shot allowing the arms to move in towards the engine.
