Default Loose front shock

My front right shock on my 96' disco is loose, and it moves around in the shock tower. It makes some noise while driving, but the car seems to drive fine. I tried to tighten it but was not able to. It moves freely up and down and side to side in the shock tower. Any advice?

I'm planning on replacing the shocks and towers soon anyway, any advice on good shocks for a stock ride height and carrying a light to medium load?

thanks!

I just put a set of Terrafirma "all terrains" on the range rover classic and they seem to ride pretty good. I had the same issue you had with the front shocks. The bushings were completely shot in my old fronts but the P.O. changed out the rears already so I have a set of lightly used Monroe sensatrac shocks.. if you're interested $30 + shipping and they are your..

Just front shocks? Thats a great offer! I'll do some research and make sure I know what I really need. Where do you live?

It's looking like I'm going to need to replace shocks, springs, shock towers, and bushings on all four corners. Any recommendations? The terrafirmas seem reasonably priced but is there a good "kit" out there at includes all of these items together?
Thanks!

You can't beat Old Man Emu, long lasting, strong 3 valve construction and been around for 20 plus years and have proven their worth.

Not sure why you are wanting to replace the shock towers?

EASY.. more difficult when it's rusted to hell.. SOAK everything in PB blaster Front shock is 4 nuts on the shock towers. Then remove the nut on the top and bottom of the shocks. If you're not going to reuse the shocks I use this to prvent them from spinning when you're turning the nuts. Which is hard, especially when they are really rusted.
Irwin Vise-Grip Large Jaw Locking Pliers — 12in. Length, Model# 12L3-12LC | Locking Pliers| Northern Tool + Equipment

The new shocks generally have a little 1/4" notch on the stem to put a wrench on to keep them from spinning.

The rear is the nut on the top shock mount. Then the lower nut using the same pair of clamps. then replace them with the new shocks...

Done.

Thanks for the help, I plan to tackle the job as soon as the old man emu's I ordered come in.

Disco Mike, the towers are completely rusted, I just assumed it'd be a good idea to go ahead and replace them. Ordered a bilstein steering stabilizer as well. Thanks for the help guys, I'll keep you all posted on how the installation goes.
