Volvo 6 Cylinder in LR3?
Has anyone heard that LR may put the new Volvo (also owned by Ford) 6 in the LR3? It has 232 HP which is better range for the heavy LR3. Rhe engine is all new and debuted in the new Volvo S80. Please post if you have heard anything.
It wouldnt surprise me... I understand the re-release of the Freelander will use the Volvo 5 cylinder turbo as a base engine; and what a sweet engine it is (coming from a small engine big turbo fan)!!!
As I understand, the new Freelander will look like a mini LR3 too.

I think the 3.2L engine going in the S80 would be too small for the 2.5 ton LR3. I read on Wikipedia that Ford is replacing the 4.0L SOHC V6 in 2007 with the cleaner, more powerful Duratec 3.5L (don't know how accurate that is), so perhaps that will happen with the LR3, too. Ford has been criticized for the 4.0L V6 not being up to date compared to the competition. Nissan gets 265 horsepower out of their 4.0L V6 in the Xterra on Regular gas! Hopefully, if they do make the change, they bump the displacement up a bit from 3.5L, because even that would be too small to move the big LR3 without a lot of high RPM operation.

We have the 6 now and the power is fine because of the 6 speed trans. Got 19.3 MPG on a trip at 65-70 MPH. We have also pulled a horse trailer and that is fine also. Awesome vehicle!

I wouldn't hold out for the LR2/Freelander 2 to have a V8. It is based on the European Ford Focus chassis.

The new baby freelander, or LR1 is the one that will be based on the Ford Focus chassis, and will come in both 2wd and 4wd variations...
That is if they every build it as Land Rover are now saying they are not going to... but we have heard that one before... Thread
