Yes, look at how many aftermarket chassis braces are available for cherokee's and grandcherokees, they flex like mad when lifted and going through uneven terrain.

I don't think I will have to worry about wanting an LR3 next spring though, I couldn't find one on autotrader(nationwide) for under $14k. '04 D2's though can be had for as little has $6k

Look, I have to throw my 2 cents worth in here. Have had my 05 LR3 since Jan 05, and now have 113k miles. I would own another one in a heartbeat. I have never owned a more versatile vehicle, both as my daily driver and as a rock crawling machine. The Johnson Rods work great, take only 10 minutes to put on and off.

That being said, owning a modern LR is not an economical proposition. All of the sophisticated "out of the box" offroad capability comes at a price, both in buying and maintaining. I just dropped $3,500 into mine for new front control arms, replace an air shock, new alternator and plugs.

So you either have to be a do-it-yourselfer with w test book computer, which is expensive to own, or have a good independent shop that you trust. I still take mine to dealer, but they treat me well. If you are on a budget, get a toyota or jeep, but if you go with the LR3, you will have the most comfortable ride getting to the offroad places, and then have great capability underneath offroad.

I think that would put it in perspective for alot of folks. I know many on the D1 board did not pay that much for their entire vehicle.
