$2.7k is alot to pay for something you might not use.
Keep in mind the company offers this service to make money, ie most people wont accrue anywhere close to $3k in repairs due to failure within 100k miles.
Just read up and keep up on your service guidelines and you'll be ok.
If anything I would suggest spending some money on a real Factory Service Manual so you can do the simple things that can reduce the really costly repairs...ie trans fluid/filter changes, differential fluid changes, and transfercase fluid changes. Also engine oil and coolant changes and brake pads/rotos/sensors.
Everything else ie water pump and alternator cant really be serviced, just run till they break.
Doing this stuff yourself makes you more familiar with your ride, proud of the work you did and less likely to take the BS the dealers throw at you as gospel
