Default Weird starting issue

Just recently getting an intermittent starting issue. Sometimes when I turn the key, it will begin to turn over, pause, and then continue. It will indicate a transmission fault, special programs off, etc. if I turn the truck off and restart, all is good.

I’d be thinking battery but it doesn’t labor when turning over. Perhaps the starter?

Check your battery terminals. Corrosion can have that type of impact on starting, and is an easy fix. Last time I thought my battery was on the way out, it was only the terminals and after a minute of cleaning, startup issues were gone. Could be other things of course but corrosion is easy to check.

Good point. I should have thought of that.

Some thoughts:
- bad battery
- 400 amp fuse on the positive terminal
- ground cables bad connection/corrosion to frame/body
- dying starter or solenoid

One of the "habits" I have adopted over time is to turn the key to "on" and wait a second or two before moving it to "start" . This does a few things like let the fuel pressure come up and let all of the ECU's check in during the systems check.

Not saying this is your problem, as a bad terminal or cable seems to be the most likely issue.
Just throwing that out there as a common practice to avoid startup issues.

Hope this helps
Jeff
