Default Well that stinks, gas tank leak, seal?

I recently got a 2010 Range Rover sport. It had been stolen and stripped. I got it back together and it runs great. I filled it with gas and smelled gas when I got home. Seems to be leaking from the top of the gas tank. Gas had leaked down the driveshaft side of the fuel tank. I cleaned it off with some simple green.

I found that the seal can be a problem. Does anyone have a “how to” on fuel tank remove, repair and replace. I have run it down to about half a tank. It still smells of gas but less so and it isn’t dripping down the side of the gas tank.

How hard is it to drop the tank. Can it be done without a lift? Seems like aside from the bulk, it should be a fairly simple fix.

Thanks in advance. Phil

Go to the LR3 sticky section.TOM R did a write up.

I use a lift, he does it on the ground.

Ive changed out 2 seals before, from people I have talked to it’s relatively common.

I dropped the fuel tank. How I wish that I had a lift. Couldn’t get the truck high enough to help that much. It was a tight fit. Undoing the lines coming from the back was much harder than it should have been. It didn’t look like the seal or the cover was leaking. It appeared to be s smaller line that plugged into the cover. It had a green clip. It appeared to be pinched or tweaked a bit. I cleaned up around the cover and reset the line. Put it back together. I suspect that the leak will come back. I need to see if that fitting/clip is available from the dealer. It look like it just pushes into the fuel line. Sorry no photo.

I have the part. I guess I should have taken it out of the box. I enjoy doing things twice. I usually get better at it the second time around. Phil

Was this part of a recall? I do remember there being some sorta fuel issue that could result in a leak.

And FYI, if you need more height you can trick the suspension to go into super extended mode.

Default Part number please

My wife's 2014 LR4 just started to smell. I may need to do the same thing next week so, what part numbers do I want?

Jeff

I don’t have the part number in front of me, but an eBay search brings this up:
