What is it?
I've got kind of an odd question. Having just had to replace the transmission oil cooler on my L322, I see a similar (oil?) cooling device on the LR3. If I stand at the front of the car and look down towards the ground directly behind and underneath the radiator fan, there is a device that looks like an oil cooler. Does anybody know what this is?
I am pretty certain from everything I've read that the transmission oil cooler on the LR3 is built into the radiator and the inlet/outlet hoses are on the driver's side of the radiator. Is this just a supplemental engine oil cooler? Is it an additional transmission oil cooler that came with a towing package or something? Thanks in advance for any help!
(BTW, looked in the workshop manual, but every version I find is missing the "4.4L Cooling System Overview" pdf)

If what you're looking at is what the oil filter goes onto, it is the engine oil cooler.
Never seen any issues with one, aside from the oil seal between it and the block, or a leaking oil filter causing the coolant hoses to expand and eventually leak.

Lol. Wow! Has it been that long since I actually got under the LR3 and changed the oil? I bet you're right, but I have the sump guard on the front and can't look from underneath because I'm a wuss and it's too cold outside.
Thanks Dave. I'm sure you're right... it just looked almost exactly like the L322 tranny oil cooler and got me wondering.
