Heat plus moisture I am guessing. Maybe oils from skin contact, etc.

You may want to slice that area away, seal with something to stop it continuing, and repaint with a matching color.

I think there is a blend motor right there. Maybe it overheated and caused that.

Was there any noise etc? Did this happen in a day or was it gradual?

You can replace the entire panel, but not a fun job.

Drive while wearing shorts? My guess is 100% because of natural skin oil or a moisture lotion.

With the right leg extended to use the gas pedal, I can't see how there would be contact right there.

Every body is different. My knee hits right there.

The dark area is from dead skin, dirt and sweat/skin oils, which means a leg likely rubs on that area. The bubbling looks like the pain reacted to whatever is rubbing on it. All you can do at this point is re-paint.

BUG SPRAY!!

Trust me, deet, and/or brake clean etc - similar results, but the odds of you having bug spray on your knee and hitting that with shorts may be higher lol.

Nothing organic would do that - oily skin or whatever - no way. I've been hitting that stuff with cleaners and armorall for years with zero issues.
