Wheel bounce and burning smell

well that was with a generous amount of brake cleaner but yeah, it's not very worn either. The pads were not really damaged at all, and the drum portion of the disc was just mildly burnt. Cleaned up fine with the sandpaper and cleaner.

Regarding the scheduled service, how frequently is it supposed to be done? I wouldn't think there would be a lot of wear since they're normally applied when the wheels are stopped.

It's less about wear than time/heat/moisture/corrosion breaking down brake fluid & brake lube & doing a visual inspection with adjustment, cleaning out dust and grime, checking that shoes aren't rust jacking (not that I see that a lot being in the South), delaminating, glazed, overheating etc etc. Service/cleaning/lubing is important for caliper/pad/rotor assemblies for the same reason, even if there isn't enough wear to warrant replacement.

I would check and see if they installed the brake shoe's facing in the right direction. I see people who reversed the side before. never go well for the car!
