Angry Xenon Ballast Wire Burned

Ok guys, a little help here. I have xenon bulbs, the right light "burned out", so I purchased after market bulbs from ebay. They installed perfectly, however the wattage was too high. Instead of 35W, I installed 55W. So eventually the one side stopped working altogether, for the right reason. Upon removing the bulb, I noticed a burning smell from the wire that connects to the bulb inside the headlamp housing, and seemed to be melted. The rest of the ballast seems to be okay. So, my question is, can I simply clean out the burn away from the copper connector or do I have to purchase an entire new ballast? A new one from the dealer goes anywhere from $390+ and one on ebay and other peripherals sells from $150. Any ideas?
