Hi I have a newly acquired 2011 LR4 lux. I absolutely love this vehicle, but the Bluetooth audio connectivity or lack thereof leaves something to be desired. I am using a bovee 1000 in the factory ipod adapter currently to use my android phone. While this does work I have had some reliability issues such as music not automatically playing and random freezing. Also while using android no track information is displayed which is annoying.
I would really like to retrofit the OEM Bluetooth audio solution to my vehicle, but there is very little info I can find. I am not sure if it would be as simple as swapping for a 2012+ Bluetooth module ( I really doubt it) or if other components would need to be replaced and or software updated.
Does anybody have any insight that has looked into this? Or other options for Bluetooth that integrate better with the current factory system?
I think you are in a spot where you are going to need to replace the head unit. I'm doing some research on this as well, as I would love to have Android Auto/Carplay in the car. Naviplus is one brand. There are several others out of China that work just fine to repalce the stock unit without it being a 7" system from Kenwood, Sony, etc. These are custom units designed to look stock in the car.
The reality is that a lot of car manufactures have a wide line they crossed in 2011 to 2012. That is when Bluetooth allowed both streaming audio as well as phone calls. Especially the ability to be listening to music, get a call, take the call, and then when you hang up the music comes back on without your interaction. Before 2011 this was a problem. I picked up our 2012 Honda Odyssey for that exact same reason to avoid the earlier model years. It's not a software upgrade. It's a completely separate technology and system.
As I am looking for a much more modern application/NAV capability over the 2013 system I have, I'm looking into these drop in Android units. Of course it won't be as easy to just plug it in and go, like steering wheel control adapters, but I would suggest taking a look.
I'm also researching options. One guy over on a FB LR3/LR4 group installed an Android tablet on the dash above the OEM screen. He didn't provide a lot of detail, so I'm pressing him to provide some, but it looks like he also adding a Bluetooth dongle for the ODB to provide torque and other data, but again, no details on the apps he's using. I'm still looking for a solution.
following thread hoping for a good solution also. i read on one forum that a shop , Spiral Audio in Florida, has a kit . has anyone tried it ? i have two bovees and two 30 pin connectors ( 1 of 2 work not sure which ) that i've given up on & will gladly send to anyone that wants to try them in their lr4 just for good karma in hopes that someone can rec a good solution or confirm the spiral audio kit . thanks
Did you get your bovee 1000 to work? I was about to pull the trigger on one, but I don't want to get it if it is more of hassle than not. Phil
got it to work , briefly , no fault of the bovee , but somehow the internal linkage from the 30 pin connector beneath the arm rest ( unreachable without ripping it out ) disengaged . i've given up . we are plugging aux cord into middle row and listening in mono.
I got a Bovee device. It didn't work. I emailed Bovee, they told me to essentially, go fly a kite........I wasn't impressed with their customer service. Phil
