Question for you all as I am stumped. I have a 2016 LR4. I was replacing the wheel studs and pulled the rear hubs to press in new studs. When pulling the hubs I found the hub itself had a tapered bearing pressed onto it. So, with that said there are 2 bearings on each rear rear corner of my truck. The round bearing that is pressed into the spindle and then a second mystery bearing that is pressed onto the rear hubs themselves. I can not find any evidence that this bearing exists on parts break dows, I cannot cross-reference the numbers on the bearing as they don't match anything, and the dealership and other parts folks state that they should not be there. Let me know your guys thoughts as I need to get this back together and cannot find a replacement and am nervous to remove it without knowing what is going on. I can grab pics if folks need. Thanks!
Firstly, its my understanding that the wheel hub assemblies are provided “assembled”. That replacing a stud is not an option.
(of course I would try if I had just 1 troublemaker stud, too.)
As you describe it, it does sound strange…. I wonder what’s going on. Perhaps a bad (and cheap) replacement solution??
Please do provide a pic. I’m interested.
Here are the pics of the hub and bearings. I did slide the hub back on without the tapered bearing and I dont like how it feels. Moves to freely. I did notice that the earlier models had this tapered bearing so I am starting to wonder if repairs were made with older parts. Does anybody have a part number for the older models' hub bearings? Thanks!
I figured it out. The bearing broke in half so one end fell out so it looked like 2 separate bearings. Picking up new bearings tomorrow. Thanks for the input!
