Default 5.0 Engine Swap Time

I am looking at getting a 2012 LR4 with 120k miles for dirt cheap but has head gasket problems. It currently runs/drives but from what I have read the engine is likely done and would need a swap. I have found some Jag engines for around 3-4k. My main question is how long does this typically take? I currently don't have a lift but have access to one if I can do it in a weekend. I have seen some videos of people being able to do it with the body on but it seems like the main direction is to pull the body. Can anyone comment on the typical time to do something like this and if they recommend going the body off route or trying to pull it off with the body on?

If you get an AJ133 from a Jaguar, you will have to change the oil sump, as LR engines have a sump that is designed not to starve the engine of oil on steep inclines. Jaguar engines have a traditional sump. Also, according to the original press release back in 2009, the LR version has waterproofed accessories i.e., water pump, alternator A/C compressor etc., so those would have to be swapped out with the corresponding parts from LR. To answer your other question, I'm not sure how long it will take, but it will be a while. You have to take the body off to swap the engine. I have attached the workshop manual below.

Thanks! I wasn't aware of the waterproofed accessories....assume it would be OK to not swap them if you aren't taking it off-road in deep water but if I do the swap I will do that if they are in good shape on the current motor.

I ended up getting it and based on the feedback from the mechanic that had worked on it he thought it could be salvaged and didn't think it overheated but they had put blue devil in it. When I pulled the front crossover tube it was clearly bad and the ports in the block were full of a rubbery substance which I can only assume was the head gasket leak stop. Figured it is probably shot but considering it was running fine when I got it and since I am this deep into it I want to pull the heads but am waiting on a couple of tools (crankshaft pulley puller/timing lock tool/fuel injector pullers). Once I pull the heads I will determine if I should do a swap or try to have the heads redone/new gasket/etc.

For reference see below for some threads I found useful in case somebody else is in the same spot:

I would use the correct accessories regardless if you go off-roading or not. The Jag water pump has been redesigned and assigned new part numbers nine times over the years, whereas the LR one has only been given new part numbers twice.

Swapping over the sump will be mandatory, though.

Sounds good. I ended up pulling the heads and it has the M11 bolts with no sign of thread stripping and one head is just barely out of spec so I am going to have them both resurfaced, fix a couple of the valves that appear to leak slightly, replace crossover tubes (front was the main failure), injectors, plugs, etc and hope for the best.

Yep checked it and it is good. Also got a new timing set. For some reason timing was good but the chain alignment marks weren't aligned as if somebody put the timing chain on without aligning it properly. Hoping to get most of it back on this weekend pending part arrival.
