Jaguar engine/ trans?
Hey All, I've been living on this forum now for days reading up on engines, and how to proceed with a blown head gasket (I hoped just the crossover pipes
). I'm thinking about getting a good Jag engine for my 2013 LR4 and doing an engine swap. But before taking that plunge, I'd like advice.
First, the transmission. I do have a line on a 2012 Jag engine, but comes with a 6-speed trans, and he won't separate. Do LR's use that trans? I believe it's the rotary dial selector-- not sure if LR4's would use it. Besides flipping it, any LR need for it?
Ok, back to the engine. I read the two excellent threads on an engine swap out, and in-truck head gasket replacement. I could do either, but with affordable Jag engines available, it would be better as a swap because mines already 137k miles. Also rebuilt long blocks are pretty affordable in comparison.
The Jag engine non-rebuilt-- most are 2012 or older-- should I worry about the timing gear problems with that year Jag engine? Is it a simple swap the oil pan, and connect the LR4 hoses and accessories, and it's good to go?
The rebuilt engine long block-- I might go this way as it's not much more, I have all the LR4 accessories and pan, and we plan to keep the truck for a long time. So, would I run into any unexpected problems going this route?
Both of the swap out and head gasket threads were superb (thanks guys for the excellent effort!!!!), and I could do either, but a Jag engine with new gaskets would also be possible. So, feel free to give me your thoughts and advice. I have the space, a lift, and all the tools for either. Thanks!!!

I’m not sure, but I believe that the camshaft pick ups on the jag motor are different than LR pick ups. If that’s the case, you will need to do a semi timing job to change them.

There are a few variants of the ZF 6HP26 transmission. All of which may be fitted with the rotary dial or the shifter.
The right configuration on the ecm and tcm is everything. I would want some guidance on those settings before pulling the trigger on hardware.
You may just be ahead in time, money, and effort to source the LR engine…
