Default 8 speed transmission service

Hello all, coming up on 80k miles and want to do a transmission service. I was looking at the trick pan/filter setup that lucky8 has but unfortunately they do not offer that for the 2016 8 speed transmissions. I tried a google search and am seeing some mopar stuff but it is a bit more expensive and I am unsure as to if it would clear the rover crossmember. Does anyone have a proven solution for this?

Disclaimer: I own a D5, not an LR4.

However, much of the drivetrain & parts are the same. The D5 that I have has the ZF 8HP45X transmission, the LR4 has the 8HP70.
The PPF pan is the aftermarket pan that fits the 8HP ZF transmissions. They don't list the LR4 / 5 specifically, but if you look up the part numbers they all cross-reference (FCP Euro and ECS tuning lists the part numbers). ZF uses the same pan across a bulk of their transmissions.

PPE makes two sizes, a +1qt and a +2qt. The +1qt is only 1" taller toward the rear of the car, you'll have to measure on your application if it'll fit. A few potential downsides to the PPE aluminum pan:
1. Only 1 drain magnet vs the OEM ZF pan with multiple.
2. I don't know the effect of heat & the distance from the trans pan to the OEM cats.

The cats run next to the trans pan. Will the PPE pan will absorb radiant heat from the cats and heat the trans fluid more? I don't know..
Initially I was looking to cool trans temps with the PPE pan during towing, but the highest I've seen it is a burst of 215-220 going uphill which isn't bad. I'm still under warranty, so I'm choosing to go with the OEM ZF plastic pan, which can be had for under $100. PPE pan if you're looking for the extra potential cooling, but if you're looking to save $, you'll need to keep the LR4 past 200k miles to come close to breaking even.

Thanks for the detailed writeup, that is indeed the more expensive option that I had come across, I sent them an email asking if they had any fitment information for the LR4, I will update with the response. After a little more sleuthing i also found this pan for a dodge durango that shows some promise, it is made out of aluminum and is $200 cheaper. I think it may be worth the risk and worst case I can return it and get the PPE pan. Durango Pan. I will update with my findings.

Stay away from the URO pan - tolerance issues.

Not worth the potential headache and $4k for a new trans to save $200

ouch! If I’m not mistaken, that pickup is on the filter element itself and not integrated with the pan? So I should be able to get the correct filter to fit snugly in the oil pickup. The PPE pan is still $200 more and does not come with a filter element at all. For a potential $200 savings I’m willing to throw some calipers on there and double check the size though. Thanks for the tip, that is definitely a transmission killer!

URO filter is proprietary, so no. PPE does include the filter.
good luck!

well thanks for the great advice guys. Always willing to take advice from those who know more than I do. Gonna cancel the uro order. And most likely go with the PPE pan then. Will report back.
