Default Aftermarket Warrenty

Anyone have experience with an aftermarket warrant like car shield? Was quoted $110 a month for power train only, $100 deductible. Thinking this might be a way to protect against timing chain issues but still quite expensive. Wi seeing if the cost comes way down on this type of thing with higher deductible. Thoughts, experiences, recommendations are welcome.

I've oodles of experience with third party "warranties". Interesting, Carshield told me they don't offer coverage for the LR4....

READ the fine print, the exclusions and the specifics of what they cover or don't cover. Also, powertrain can exclude a lot of important things, as well as items they consider "normal wear and tear" like hoses, pipes, gaskets, seals, etc. For example, head gaskets, supercharger gaskets, valve covers, transfer case seals, differential seals, etc. IMHO the "powertrains" on these trucks are pretty good, the issue's with many of the pieces connected to the power train.

Good advice to read the details. Have you had a good experience with any warranty providers? I’m wondering if anyone is offering catastrophic warranty with a high deductible. Really I’d be fine with $1-2k in deductible and a less expensive premium. I’m about ready to pull the trigger on a nice lr4 but the timing chain failure scares me.

whatever warranty you choose, make certain how the timing chain is covered. TBH, the timing chain's really only an issue if the engine wasn't maintained properly, such as regular, frequent oil changes using the OE spec oil. There's more to JLR vehicles than timing chains. The cooling system failures are WAY more common problems resulting in warped heads than failed timing chains and may not be covered by third party providers. Need to research these trucks and warranties a bit more I think.

Has anyone purchased an aftermarket warranty that they were happy with?

Hmmm your choice. If you keep a journal of repair costs, I would wonder if you were ahead or behind on $1320/ year on “warranty”.
The fine print may show you’re not as covered as you think you are. Warranty providers are in business to make money.
