Brake problems
I’m sorry for the long explanation — I just don’t know how else to explain the problem I’m having.
I have a 2012 Land Rover LR4 HSE Lux. I recently replaced the front calipers, all four rotors, and all the brake pads. When I did the work, I forgot to clamp the brake lines (which I now realize was a mistake).
After the install, I bled the brakes multiple times, but the brake pedal had no resistance. Also, the car wouldn’t start unless I pumped the brakes a few times. Even when it did start, the brake pedal would go straight to the floor with almost no braking power, and it took a long time to stop the vehicle.
I tried bleeding the brakes multiple times again, but the issue didn’t improve. Eventually, I gave up and took it to a shop, which ended up costing me $1,500 — and the car still wasn’t fixed.
The shop said the two rear brake lines were leaking, so they replaced those. Then they told me the master cylinder was the issue, and they supposedly replaced or repaired it. When I picked the car up, the brakes initially felt okay, but after a short drive, the same issues came back.
At this point, I’m about ready to give up. One thing I’ve noticed is this:
When the engine is off, pumping the brake pedal makes it feel firm.
But as soon as I turn the engine on, the pedal slowly sinks all the way to the floor.
Please help.
