Default confirming bad fan

2015 LR4 USA
3.0 V6 supercharged

I have code P0483-36 (2F) Fan performance - frequency modulation/pulse width modulation failure - signal frequency is too low

Using the GAP IID tool I watched the coolant temps. Around town I was getting up to 208 degrees leaving the engine and back to about 185 leaving the radiator. Higher than normal so I stopped driving it.

Battery and alternator seem to be fine, getting 14volts when engine is running.

The fan starts for 5 seconds or so from cold start and then stops. Looking at the engine from the bumper the fan seems rotate fine turning it toward the passenger side of the vehicle, but when turning it to the drivers side it is rough and does not want to spin freely. I'm also hearing a clicking sound from what sounds like the fan clutch area.

I looking to confirm this is a bad fan/fan clutch before buying a new one.

I was hoping to manually turn it on using the GAP IID tool but I can't seem to find how to do it using the tool. If anyone knows how to please let me know.

Thanks,

Hmmm, the pwm signal freq seems to indicate a problem with the input to the fan, but that is controlled by the ECU. My guess is maybe you have a bearing going bad and the fan circuit includes some bidirectional control enabling the ecu to monitor the actual fan speed and it is detecting it is too low. It sounds like it uses a common pwm system for fan speed, pretty typical for digital fan control. I kind of doubt the gap tool is going to be able to troubleshoot that. Not sure anything could short of an oscope. Are there any other threads or google search results on this trouble code?

Some posts I've read mention the alternator may be the issue but I'm getting 14volts when running so I think I can eliminate that.

The bad rotation toward the drivers side when diagnosing makes me feel its the fan

Replacement fan is working.

I used part number # LR012644 as the replacement reference.

Uro Parts is the brand name

Interesting with a little works searching the internet there is a wide variety of cost for the same part.

It may be a little more lauder but that could be my imagination.

So far so good
