Disco 4 3.0 2011 - Restricted Performance
Hi all, for the last 2 months we've been getting this restricted performance message in our Disco 4 2011, it does restrict the performance, but not to much unless you hit a steep hill.
I followed some youtube video to clean the Mass Airflow Sensor using a specific spray for that job, didn't do anything, I did it twice just to make sure.
I can now make it happen or not, it's in my control... What I have found is that I can drive it all day, such as on Sunday I drove it for 4 hours to a friends house, and 4 hours back without issue and said to my wife on the last hill up to our area "watch this", and sure enough it came on... what happens is if you drive flat and keep the revs at a decent level and don't floor it it's fine, no issues.... even when you hit some decent hills, which we do, I just drive it into the bottom at 110kph and as the car starts to slow going up the hill I don't put my foot down any further, I just let it slow down to 105, 100, 95 etc then when I get over the hill it speeds back up to 110 again, but if I am in cruise control or driving it not in cruise and I put my foot down to maintain the 110 up the hill (it's an automatic transmission), as soon as it kicks in (be it a gear change or the injection kicking in I'm not sure, I'm not a car guy) the light flashes on for 'Restricted Performance'.
I can then stop, turn the car off, jump out, lock the car, leave it a few mins, unlock, jump back in and the error has gone.... I can do what I did before and not push it when going up hills and continue driving without issue.
What ever it is doesn't feel serious as the car has been ok, no smell, no other issues or errors, as I say I can drive it without the error if I'm careful about how I handle the car in those hilly situations.
Anyone any ideas? appreciate any assistance. Thanks

I have exactly the same problem as Michael Doman... No alarms flagged on vechile diagnostics.. I have researched the issue and mention is made of cracked turbo booster pipe... Anybody experienced this before?

One work around, going up hills in sand mode to keep revs up, worked very well, until RP started kicking in down the hill.......
Hi Chaps, has anyone successfully sorted this out as yet? We're having the same issues as described, usually when under load with a camper trailer. I thought I had it worked out however it's really random now and on long drives, occurs 3-4 times and then behaves....thus far we've replaced both rocker covers and the solenoid.

Same problem when on a trip in the south of France. First it went away after a stop. Then became more frequent when ever accelerating. Issue is a crack in the second turbo charger that only kicks in when accelerating or going uphill. Hence when under pressure air leaks out and the required mixture/pressure is not available for the turbo to kick in. This said you have to locate the leak in the system. If your are lucky it’s only a pipe. If you are not, like me, it can be a crack in the housing or where the housing lid joins the bottom part. I had it replaced. The manufacturer also recommends to replace both as there are two such devices and fit new pipes and hoses at the same time, which I did not and saved 300 £.
