Default Engine Overheat and Emergency Shut Down

Hello,
First time asking a question but I'm out of options.
We have a 2016 LR4 and my wife had an emergency shut down on the interstate with a lot of steam/smoke. After pulling it home, there's coolant everywhere so pretty sure the crossover pipel burst and she overheated the car. Land Rover did an anayysis and advise that we need a new engine but very little detail in the report.
Here's the question, the only code is "exhaust valve open" and when I turn it over it turns over really fast like there's no compression. Before making the decision for a new engine or scrapping; is there anything else I can investigate around the open exhaust valve? Can it be replaced or reset? Is it poissible that the emergency shut down happend before the engine was destroyed?

Yes further details needed but smells like warped heads or blown head gasket = no compression = new or re-man engine...
