I’ve only had it back for a little over a week, but no problems yet. Taking it on ~1k trip to Michigan next week. I’ll report back when I get there and let you know if anything comes up.
Hello. I’ve yet to schedule service. My B2B coverage ends April so probably schedule service by end of week. Have a couple things on the list besides this. Nothing major.
Besides the DTC P0089, did any of you experience any other issues or symptoms related to erratic idle speed with this code? The main dealers and I have been chasing this problem for over 2 years/20K miles and just today this DTC popped up for the first time ever.

so it ended up being a software issue. There is an software update for P0089. I went to the dealer and did an PCM update and had not came back on since then.
I know this is an old thread but I just wanted to add my experience with this code. I have a 2016 L494 and this code popped up about a week ago. When looking at the fuel pressures on the GAP tool, nothing seems way off but I can’t tell what the actual fuel pressure is at the fuel pump at the tank. I have a replacement low pressure sensor but I’m thinking of doing the software update first. I’ll post back my findings.
Keep us posted. I had the same and pissed me off for months. I tried the software update, twice, and replaced the sensor. I got conflicting information from the dealer and my indy and I was reluctant to pull the fuel tank down and replace the pump unless I had more definitive information. In the end it was the low pressure pump in the tank. Both the dealer and my indy said if it was the pump "the car wouldn't start". But it worked fine. It was off just enough to throw a code. The software updates seemed like they worked as I was driving home but a day or two late it would kick back on. I think the software update increases the tolerance before it throws a code.
The dealer wanted a $1k+ to replace the pump when they did the fuel gasket recall, which is crazy since it's literally 10 mins extra when the tank is down. I ended up doing it myself for $150. Its not a hard job if you have jack stands or ramps....but Its a **** job. You have to dig you hand into a fuel tank, which is sketchy. I think I made a writeup on it but if not, I can send you details of how to do it if you get to that point.
Thanx for the info. I think it’s going to end up being my fuel pump as well. I can’t see what the actual fuel pressure is at the fuel pump so I can’t tell if it’s surging or not. The L494 has access to the pump under the rear passenger seat, so I’ll start digging around there to see if I can do it that way or drop the tank.
Oh, didnt see that was a RR Sport. Yea waaaay easier to replace that pump. That saves 95% of the effort and will probably take you like 1hr to replace it. Couple quick tips:
- make sure to clear around the rim of the flange really well, because little pebbles get stuck up under it and will fall in the tank when you remove it.
- run your tank down to empty to make it much easier to work on.
there is a "special tool" to remove the fuel tank gasket, but I was able to remove it with a punch and hammer, evenly tapping all the way around it
- take pictures of how the old pump is situated, because its a bit confusing and you cant see all the way inside and have to do it by feel...and the workshop manual for the 2016 LR4 showed pictures of an older pump that didnt have the fuel filter attached. So I spent 1hr trying to figure out how to get it all back together. In mine the pump is at the bottom of the tank and there is a hose connecting to filter thats fitted at the top of the tank. You need to twist to unlock/lock the pump in place and thats a big tricky. Then the fuel filter slides in on a rubber rail at the top of the tank. Properly documented it would take 2 mins, but LR isn't know for their documentation.
