Default Front carpets now wet, help!

Hi, LR friends— LR4 2011 here. Both the front driver & passenger side carpets are now wet, & it doesn’t look to be coming from the sunroof. How the bleep are they getting wet?! No windows or sunroof left open, not driving most days & definitely not in the rain. Now my car is fogging up with all the water inside! HELP!?!!

If it isn’t the sunroof drains, here are some alternatives from where water could ingress:
  • Behind the A pillar,
  • AC drains don’t, well, drain (you have two inside the center console),
  • Cabin air intake (your cabin filter would be wet though since water has to come in there),
  • Top of the windshield (particularly if 3rd party glass)

its most likely the sunroof drains. You can remove the passenger side outer grill and get eyes omn the nipple that is wedged into the hole on the fender.

Rain gets in three ways:

1 Sunroof drains
2 A-pillars
3 Cowl

My suggestion is work from the top down to eliminate were the issue is. Put duct tape along the seal of the sunroof on the outside, get the carpets dry. You won's see the duct tape so it is not noticeable. Keep it there for at least a few weeks after the carpet is dry and you have some good rain. If your carpets remain dry, you know it is the drains.

The drains could just be clogged. Different techniques on YouTube. Basically all the same, put some form of wire/cord down the drain to un-clog it. Usually the clog is where the hose connects onto the sunroom. The other place hose is the issues is where the hose terminates. The hose usually deteriorates with time. This is the nipple Abran spoke of. Also different techniques how to repair this with/without dropping the headliner and how handy you are.

A-pillars have a defect that leaks. There is a service bulletin on this. If you buy the kit from Lucky 8 or Atlantic British the repair is basically remove them, replace all the clips except 1 and this clip is removed and the hole is covered with vinyl tape.

The cowl can get old and lose its seal with the windshield. If it does this it can let air into the AC/Heater blower. A wet cabin filter is the clue this is it. Since yours is leaking on both sides most likely this is not it.
