Any fellow Forum Members found a good way to safely secure a handgun, i.e. 9mm semi-auto pistol inside the interior of their D/LR 3/4 other than using the center console? We have and used the center console cooler so a console safe is not an option for us and given the glove box does not lock leaves us wondering what other options might work.
This same thread is being discussed on the Corvette C-7 forum. It has brought the kooks out screaming. In my conservative, humble opinion, the best place is a readily available holster on your hip. Let the snowflake rants start.
There are a few decent places if you are not concerned about quick access. I however agree properly holstered in your preferred carry position is best.
You could look at a lock box installation below one of the flip up rear lower seat cushions. Another possibility would be a lock box in either of the rear storage cubby holes in the plastics. Last option that comes to mind would be if you don't have a 7 seater you could use the floor storage well in the trunk.
Both my wife and I maintain CCW's so our possession to start with is legal, its more a matter of when we are not in the vehicle and choose to leave it behind in the car, including when its our vehicle is in the possession of someone else, i.e. being serviced, washed, etc. by a third party. So by adding a lock box, I can at least stow it away safely when there is need for and not worry about the "honest thieves". I have since purchased a Tuffy like the one shown below and will investigate where best to install it in the LR once it comes in. Ideally, I'd like to keep it up front if possible simply for the ease of access. Hard to tell at this point until it comes in and I can test a few locations I have in mind.
Never said you weren't legal. Merely pointing out I prefer mine on me but understand the need to store. The front is garbage for good easy to access locations. That tuffy box depending on height would fit I bet under the rear lower seat cushion
Yea I bought one of these... not happy. A few things.
1) #1 dont appreciate being mislead. Best 4x4 pictures have a lgun on top of the safe. what he doesnt show you ... THE LID DOES NOT CLOSE. you fellas bashed a poster for legit pointing this out and saying he wants it in black over ss. come to find out yes you have to put the gun in the safe. That is NO GOOD in an emergency situation. And dont anyone dare tell me I dont know what I'm talking about. I should've read more before getting too excited .Thanks best 4x4. your camera trick photos worked. You got my money.
2) the black combo **** feels plastic not metal it gets in the way of the square holder so I cant put my cigg packs in,.
3) you can only mount it 1 way no extra holes
4) A sharp steel edge to skin your hand every time you reach in. I smoke and drive allot. So I'm always reaching in and out. I put a rubber protect strip on it .. but it woudnlt close. I had to unscrew and bend the latch w 2 pliers to get it to close. A rubber strip is something that shoulda been done in QQ testing. It's common sense. that edge is too sharp.
5) The small latch is held by a screw. 1 latch. 1 screw. Anyone with a flat edge and a little muscle could pop that off.
6) Very high price. I expected the best. Didn't get it. This will go up for sale on ebay.
This review is honest. Take it or leave it.
POSITIVES - This was a good idea and I appreciate the enthusiam in whoever made it. But its' not for me. If people need to hide things to make it a little more difficult for a thief ok. But the #1 reason I got this was to rest my gun on top for quick draw - just like the photos show. Thats the reason I got it. Thanks for the misleading photos Best.

First off the pic of the firearm ontop of the lockable SS cubby box NEVER implied or mentioned the center console lid would close with a firearm resting on top. Why would you buy the lockable SS cubby box and then rest your firearm on top of it? Totally defeats the purpose of the lockable SS cubby box...... The firearm is supposed to go inside the lockable SS cubby box! If you wanna just toss a firearm into an unsecured center console then yep you don't need the lockable SS cubby box.
The lockable SS cubby box NEVER listed quick draw access as one of it's advantages. It's a lockable center console insert plain and simple. If you want a quick draw type mount those strong magnet mounts would be a much better option.
