Help needed on Transmission Fault
Hello,
I need help from the experts on this forum.
I bought a LR4 last February, 2016, 60’000 miles, HSE Lux. Warranty gone in November 2019 and didn’t buy any additional warranty...
The other day, engine would not start, getting 3 messages: “Gearbox not in Park”, “HDC Malfunction” and “Gearbox Malfunction”. Other symptoms: Gearbox selector wont lighten (i.e. park or anything else) and wont come out. Electrical seems ok, lights and such working, as well as touchscreen working. Getting also the short speed selector on. Let it sleep on night, tried again, same thing, would not start.
Towed it to the nearest Land Rover dealer, they spent 1.5 day on it to diagnose and they are now telling me that they had to unmount part of the dashboard to get to the transmission tunnel, that the transmission module shorted out and shorten the transmission valve body with it. That the transmission valve body shorted internally, causing all the issues.
They propose to change the whole transmission valve body for a good amount of money (just the main part is quoted a bit more than 3000.-).
I guess I trust them they know what they do, but would anyone have had this before or advise me to ask them check some other possible cause before I either scrap the car or but the money to repair it.
On some other thread, saw some possible links with fuse malfunction, brake pedal strange connection and other simple unexpected crap. I plan to ask them, but I am not mechanic.
Can any1 help ?
Thank you.
M
