After i shut tailgate it ever so slightly releases. I can hear it release and even see it move but it still appears shut. When I turn on the engine i get the tailgate open alert. I am hoping to fix this myself. Thanks

Try oiling the latch. I had this problem several times and oiled the latch and it fixed the problem.
