Default lifts - engine

Hello,
I am a very uneducated Land Rover owner. My car is a 2016 Land Rover LR 4 with a 100,000 miles
The engine started clicking and the mechanic let me know that the car is DONE! The engine is not working and the "lifts are gone" The engine needs a complete rebuild! He said that the car is worth zero at this point....I can't reasonably afford to rebuild...

I'm beside myself with figuring out my next steps with the car - would anyone have any ideas?

Mechanic must be talking about the "lifters". these are cam followers. If the timing chain has not failed and the lifters have not grenaded to send metal around the engine, it may not be as bad as you think. Has the engine overheated? run low on oil?
