Looking for thoughts on potential 2016 LR4 Landmark purchase
Hey everybody - new to the board - thinking about purchasing a 2016 LR4 Landmark edition with just under 38K miles. Has all the features I'm looking for - including HD package and rear seat entertainment. In-service date was April 2016 so it still has through April 2020 on the warranty.
I checked the Carfax - generally ok with standard maintenance done at 9K and 25K miles (was a leased vehicle so no surprise the owner didn't go above and beyond recommended oil change interval). Biggest issue is that it was involved in an accident that involved a police report. Exact description is "Vehicle involved in a rear-end collision involving rear impact with another motor vehicle; minor damage reported". So entirely possible the damage was mostly to the other vehicle. I haven't checked it out in person - it is being transported to my local Carmax - but they said it looks like there was touch up paint on the front bumper and that everything else looks fine with all original body panels and such.
Price seems reasonable (just under $51K) compared to relevant comp set (and given Carmax isn't usually the cheapest option). I definitely plan to take it for a pre-purchase inspection at either the dealer or an independent shop. And may take it to a trusted body shop as well.
My question - given the car is still under warranty, does it make sense to have a dealer do the pre-purchase inspection and have my next scheduled maintenance through them or would a reputable independent specialist be the better way to go for the inspection?
And assuming there really was only superficial damage (if any at all) to this vehicle, any other thoughts / concerns / things I should look into more carefully?
Thanks in advance.
