LR4 Daytime Running Lamp
I had the dealer enable the Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) in my 2010 LR4. As I had experienced with a Lexus, I thought the direction lights would be on when the engine is running. To my dismay, I discoverd later that the headlamp low beams illuminate. I then checked the owner's manual and it's noted in there.
I didn't yet ask the dealer but does anyone know if the DRL programming can be isolated to the front direction lights. Seems like a complete waste to have the Xenon headlamp constantly on whenever the engine is running.

I did this about 3 weeks after I got my LR4 and experienced the same thing - Low Beams are always on
I actually wrote to Land Rover in NJ and they indicated there is no way to just get the LED's on using the DRL. You have to manually switch to the accessory lighting.
Rgds,

Rgds,
I spoke to a very reliable service person at Land Rover who mentioned that they've had a few complaints about this issue. He also mentioned that perhaps if enough owners complain to Land Rover they might do a software reprogramming to correct it. However he's not sure if it can be done.
Daytime running lights in the UK mean something different to the US. In the UK (and most of Europe) it's illegal to show yellow lights (on all the time) on the front of a vehicle like we have on US cars. They they use lo-beam instead.
Having said that, the LR3 has yellow side marker lights on the front, and I believe on non-us spec vehicles they still have the bulb holders but just dont fit the bulbs in them.
Looks like they were trying to save a few bucks with the LR4 and did away with the option all together.

The 2013 HSE and LUX with the XENON light package have the DRL's available as the LED halo rings and no headlights. If you get the halogens, you're right, the low beams are the DRL's. But the XENON's use two separate XENON bulbs, one for the high and one for the low beam and since the projector doesn't have a shutter like it does on the Evoque, it can't be used for a DRL.
I was thinking of doing the same sort of thing on my LR3.
The only thing that I could think of was to install some sort of switch to cut the power to the low beam. My 3 will not only turn on DRL but also when the vehicle is any gear but Park the clearance lamps are on as well (all turn off when in Park unless light switch is on marker or headlamp). I was going to wire LED turn signals in a winch bumper to the clearance/marker lights to get the yellow/amber/orange "DRL". If one were to wire the directional/signal light into the clearance/marker light, I am not certain about how the turn signal would function as a blinking light if it is always receiving power on the marker light circuit.
Also, if I was to wire in amber DRLs I would DEFINITELY want them to flash with the turn signal, if they did not, it could send mixed signals (pun intended) about where you are going to someone waiting at an intersection.
